Blockbuster glitch or courtesy for former employees?

When we signed up for Blockbuster Online, there was a limit of 3 movies out at a time. According to their FAQ and my account settings, the package we have is still a limit of 3 out at one time. However, we have 4 movies sitting next to the TV right now, with another one getting here tomorrow, I presume.

I imagine this is a glitch in their system or maybe a spring break bonus for current members so they can keep their kids busy during this off period for the kiddos. Hell, it could even be that they are finally righting their wrongs of years ago when I worked long, hard hours for a measly wage (and free movie rentals) for Wayne Huizenga and his Blockbuster Empire.

If this is a new feature for my account level, we are almost always guaranteed to have an unwatched movie sitting at my house with the rate that we watch movies.

If this is a glitch, we will be back to waiting a day or two with no Blockbuster movies to watch….

When did ‘Peeples’ become ghetto-internet slang?

I was browsing around the web the other day and saw a website (I don’t recall which one) that happened to use the word “peeples” (our last name) as a substitute for “people”. I became curious so I did a Google search for “my peeples” and returned over 300 links to this phrase! The phrase “my peeps” results in over 90,000 links!

Now I can almost handle the use of my nickname (peeps) as a common slang term, and even as an obscure name for a disgusting marshmallow treat, but has this IM, ghetto-internet speak gotten so out of control that PEOPLE will deliberately misspell a word and even type an extra letter just because they want to sound hip?

Abbreviations? Fine, I will shorten a word or two on a quick email to a friend or even an IM, but then writing something on a public, semi-permanent medium, I try to portray some level of intelligence by writing somewhat properly and without the use of ghetto-internet speak.

I’m sure anyone who reads this will feel compelled to post a goofy comment using the word “peeps” or “peeples” in an incorrect context, but know that one day the wrath of the Peeples clan will strike you and will torture you in ways not even imagined during medieval times. Your reproductive system will rot so as to not infect future generations with your genes. If you already have children, they will be forced to endure rigorous tutoring and brainwashing until they can learn to turn off the jive-speak when communicating on a public medium.

P.S. No Easter candy jokes either or all the above actions will happen to you too! :D

philpeeps.com gets a makeover…

When I decided to stop using CPGNuke as my site script, I converted back to a regular Coppermine site and Ryan helped me get WordPress setup to act as my means of conveying whatever I choose to write about. I checked all the Coppermine themes available and found the one I liked the most and low and behold, that is what Ryan was/is using. I looked some more and found one I liked. That was the theme I had Ryan integrate into WordPress and I tweaked until it was almost seamless between the 2 systems.

That, however, had it’s limitations since the theme was relatively graphics intensive and I am no graphic designer. So that means design changes to that theme would be somewhat hard to do. So I found a color scheme I liked and altered the layout a bit. I created a single image file for the header and like that, philpeeps.com gets a makeover!

Feel free to leave me any comments about the color scheme, image, or whatever to make your visit to my site more pleasant. Are the links colors easy to see, the text easy to read? Too big? Too small? Let me know and I will take your ideas into consideration…

Almost Saw This Wreck in Houston

This past weekend, we went down to Galveston for Rae’s grandparent’s 50th Anniversary party. We got to see Rae and Marshall and most of Rae’s friends and family. The party was a good time and we ate LOTS of good food. We all watched the Super Bowl on Sunday while piggin out on pig. :D

Monday morning we all got up and got ready to leave town. We were taking Rae to the Airport and Marshall to a friend’s house in Houston. We got a call from some friends that left just a bit before us saying that the ramp at the ferry back to Galveston was broken and it would be at least an hour before it was fixed. No big deal, we would go a bit out of our way and take a different route to go around the bay. We had plenty of time…or so we thought!

We got into Houston (and it decided to pour on us) and we decided to take 610 towards Houston Hobby Airport (per Marshall’s instructions) instead of Beltway 8. We were making good time despite the rain when we see a cop drive by with his lights on, a electronic billboard saying there is a wreck ahead, and the sudden flood of brakelights.

It turns out, a big rig had just wrecked and burst into flames. The sky was black and smoke covered the entire highway interchange. Luckily, we were right by an exit and we were able to quickly bypass it to get Rae to the airport 45 minnutes before her flight was to leave.

Other than that, it was a fairly uneventful drive home. I hope to have pictures up in the next couple days from the party. Stay tuned!

EDIT: I have added the pictures from the weekend! It sure was a good time for all. Thanks Moss family for letting us be a part of it.
