Driving Rant!
It has been 2 days of crappy drivers, so I felt like I should vent…
I have 1 core ideal while driving…try not to screw things up for the guys around you! This covers most every point of driving courteously and I have given a few examples below, in no particular order.
- Take opportunities to make maneuvers as they present themself and if they don’t present themself, keep driving until they do…don’t impede traffic because you can’t merge properly.
- Don’t cut people off
- Don’t pull out in front of someone and go half their speed
- Don’t lazily lag behind traffic only to then speed up as you see a light turn yellow…maybe the guy behind you would have like to make it through the light too had you been keeping with the flow of traffic while the light was green.
- Don’t sit in a right turn lane when there are 2 other empty lanes going straight. What good does right on red do for me now as I sit behind you when you could have been a nice guy and moved over a lane as you approached the intersection.
- Don’t try to enforce the speed limits by driving slow in the left lane, you are not law enforcement.
- Occasionally glance in your rearview and if you notice someone coming up behind you…move over! Its the law for slower trffic to keep right!
- Learn how to work a 4 way stop efficiently!!!
- Don’t react to stuff that isn’t your problem. If I get an opportunity to pass you because I want to drive faster than you, don’t react to me passing you…my world doesn’t revolve around you! I have no problem with you and could care less if you are driving the speed limit! I just want to drive faster than you because I enjoy it and my car just sped past you like a bat outta hell not because I was irritated with you but because it has 400 frickin’ hp and it CAN speed past you. You give me some smart ass reaction to my desire to drive and my wish to just drive changes to my wish to annoy you for as long as possible.
I’ll give a few examples that happened today…
- 4 way stop, cars on 3 sides, all stopped. I’m sitting on deck to make my move at the stop. Car in front of me goes, I move up. In the time that it took me to move up, the car opposite my direction was turning left and never made a move. The car to the left that was stopped before me never made a move either. As I stopped, I notice their lack of action so I go and receive dirty looks from both of them! Don’t get mad at me because you can’t work a 4 way stop efficiently!!! Use the actions of the other cars as your cue to get a move on. Guy across from you has a left turn signal and you are going straight? Pull out there and let the guy pull along side and turn behind you and vice versa if you are the guy turning left. Guy at 90 degrees from you to the right enters the intersection? Make your move out into the intersection as he passes you instead of waiting for him to fully clear the intersetion….he no longer presents a threat to you!
- 50 mph road…don’t slow down to 5mph and expect to cross 2 lanes to make it to the left turn lane. Continue on down the road until you can move over safely and make a u-turn or turn into a lot so you can wait for traffic to clear so you can make your turn safely. You screwed up by not changing lanes properly! Don’t screw me up in the process because the traffic around us is moving at 10 times your speed and leaves me no option to maneuver around you!!! Maybe partially my fault for not changing lanes quick enough to get around you and failing to follow my rule #1 above, but seriously!!! 5mph in a 50mph zone to cross 2 lanes of rush hour traffic?!?!?!
- A witness to me laying on my horn behind above 5mph guy flips me off! Dude, it wasn’t your problem so stay out of it…but guess what…it is your problem now! So don’t get irritated when I get in front of you now and give you a problem by harassing you. Don’t react to stuff that isn’t your problem. I really wish they would enforce the left lane being for passing…i’m just glad i’m not in florida any more. i could predict when drivers would a) make left hand turns from right hand lanes and b) drive the wrong way down 1 way roads. those were fun times

You have anger issues dude…the horn is not on your car to voice your displeasure with someone. It is a safety device used to warn or notify other drivers of your position should they have not seen you.
Honking to express your displeasure with other drivers and then annoying someone after they have pissed you off…I am pretty sure at that point you have broken you at least one of your own rules listed in your article.
If you decided to speed past everyone else and then quickly approach someone who is confused and perhaps even lost trying to get across the lanes of traffic, then all of a sudden there is a collision, whose fault do you think it is? Is it the person who was lost and confused and just trying to get to where they were going or you, driving faster than traffic around you because you have 400 frickin hp?
Speed is for the race track…not public streets. It took me a long time to realize that.
Safety should always be the foremost thing in anyone’s mind when they get behind the wheel of a car. It is a 2000 lb. killing machine. Don’t forget that you are the most important thing in my daughters life…don’t screw it up because you’ve got a hard on for your 400 frickin hp.

lol…I knew you would respond as you did. I expect nothing less!
I was using my horn as a safety device to warn the dude that he was making things dangerous for those around him and trying to make a stupid and dangerous lane change and that he should just move on down the road to make his move. If someone honks at me, I immediately think “hmm…what am I doing that is making this guy honk at me” and log it away for future circumstances to avoid.
I did break my own rule. I likely had a chance to change lanes and get around the guy before I was stuck behind him, but I admitted that.
It may have even risked getting sideswiped by the guy making his dangerous lane change.
You mention the safety implications of my driving but never comment on the guys effort to cross 2 lanes of 50 mph traffic while going 5 mph. What about the safety of him and the passengers he has in his car. I was trying to continue with the flow of traffic (maybe + 5mph
). I assure you that my actions were MUCH safer than his.
BTW, I won’t comment on the unsafe driving habits I have seen of yours

And to be honest, it was just one of those days…the ones where whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Typically I brush these things off and don’t give them a second thought, just yesterday was screwed up.
I was already running late to meet Tasha at the gym, traffic was ridiculous @ 114/121, so I took my normal backup route to avoid the stop/go stuff. On that backup route, a road was closed creating a longer diversion and more stop/go traffic than what I was trying to avoid.
So, since I was already irritated, these things just got to me…
Also, my descriptions and your visualizations may be drastically different

I never claimed not to have done some stupid shit. I have just learned that getting red ass behind the wheel of a “2000 lb. killing machine” is not the right place or time.
All I am saying is chill man…I have learned that having to eat crow sucks…
As for the guy driving 5 mph…”someone who is confused and perhaps even lost trying to get across the lanes of traffic”. I am not saying that he was right, it would have indeed been safer for him as well as everyone else around him if he had simply continued until he could safely cross the lanes of traffic and then back track to where ever he wanted to go. All I am saying is have a little compassion for your fellow drivers. You don’t know what is going on in the lives of the other drivers on the road. Granted no one should let whatever is going on in their lives to effect their driving, but face it…it happens.
All I am saying is just chill…deep breathes…inhale though the nose….exhale through the mouth…
BTW…how do you get all of those little smiley faces into your posts?

well, you may have been typing when I responded the 2nd time, so read above. You know me…it takes alot to get a reaction out of me when I get annoyed and even more to really make me mad. It was a compound effect of the above.

oh, and quit complimenting my car saying it is only 2,000 lbs! It’s 3,800 lb fat-ass is over 4,000 lbs when I am in it! It’s gonna get a big head and think it is more bad-ass than it already is if you keep saying that!
